Christianity - the First Three Centuries

Beginning February 3rd through March 30, 2008 - An Eight Part Video Series with Dr. Paul L. Maier

How could a tiny, tortured faith become the most phenomenon in all of history? During the first three hundred years from Christ to Constantine, the Christian church had to wage a two-front campaign against external persecution and internal heresy until it finally conquered the Roman Empire - and the future. This eight part series includes:

1. Sources of Information: The New Testament, Roman authors, Josephus, the church fathers, and Eusebius, the father of
    Chruch History.
2. Jesus of Nazareth: What else do we know? Messianic prophecies, the Genealogies, John the Baptist, Pontius Pilate
     and Josepph Caiphas.
3. Apostles and Emperors: Peter and Paul, Nero and Rome.
4. Persecutions and Bishops: James the Just, the church government, the destruction of Jersalem, and the second
    Persecution under emperor Domitian.
5. Defenders of the Faith: John at Ephesus, the development of canon and creed, and the great apologist. The
    Roman Empire moderates.
6. Martyrs for the Faith: Ignatuis of Antioch, Polycarp of Smyrna, Justin Martyr. New heresies, fresh disputes and
     false leaders.
7. Torments of the Third Century: Origen, Jesus' statue, the Emperor Decuis' dragnet, and the catacombs.
8. The Great Deliverance: Successes, then nenewed perecution, Constantine Chlorus, the Battle of Milvain Bridge,
Constantine and the truimph of Christianity.

The classes will be facilitated by Dan Watson

Ladies Guild of Good Shepherd

Our goal is to work together in Christian fellowship to gather monies to assist in the needs of our church, Good Shepherd and to help support missions. We, also, seek to create a closer relationship among the members of Good Shepherd. Our monthly meetings are held from September to May. These meetings, held after late service, include devotions and time for fellowship and refreshments.

The following are some examples of the types of activities that the Ladies Guild has sponsored: bake sales, funeral luncheons, Christmas parties, secret pals, fundraiser roast beef and spaghetti dinners, greeting card ministry for shut-ins, garden tea party, family games afternoon, pancake breakfast, and calendar parties. In addition, we collect mites for missions and cancelled stamps to help provide Bibles for those who need them.
